a few things which were observered during a 5 km walk in yusmarg. met a very vocal and interesting local, who was talking of mary magdalene, the da vince code, jesus in india.

the top was windy and ice cold, this was the place were we had the first encounter with snow/ice.

i was watching this old gent(lady?) for about 15 mnts, the only activity he exibited was moving his head to the left or right once in a while, rest of the time he kept staring out into space, i would not find out what he was starting at.

this seems to be quite common, found this about 100 kilometers outside mumbai.
(edit 4th jan 2006 : the bird identified as small minivet)

this is kind of new for new, first time i am coming across one of this, the female of this seems to be absolutly colorless compared to the male.

this is a shot of a parakeet taken early in the morning, was trying to get one of these parakeets in a flight.

i thought this looked good, this is a slight crop. basically cropped to remove some empty spaces from below.

dont know why but the camera was set to 400 asa, forgot to change it.

Breeks Memorial School Ooty

Man it really felt great to seem my old school in ooty.
visiting the school/place where i had the maximum amount of fun in my childhood.

This is the breeks memorial school in ooty, it is more than 110 years old, and i guess the building is also that old.

i was visiting ooty after almost about 20 years.

Fond memories.

Wonder where K.S. Sridhar,we studied together, is now, have been trying to google him and trying other ways of finding out, have not been able to trace him.

man was he a great guy. it was from him that i pickeup the love of reading books! thanks sridhar.

by the way, the slightly paunchy guy you see in front of the school is me .(as i am now!)

was out on the lake at pykar dam outside ooty. this fiery biblical looking bush caught my eye.

this was a quick snapshot taken from a moving boat will trying to handle an ice-cream for my daughter.

this was taken indoor. the combination of equipment used were as follows.

d70+tamron 1.4x tc+br-2a+50mm 1.8 nikkor lens and lighting was provided by a sb-800 set to "AA"

the aperture= 5.6, shutter speed 1/60.

no crop the size of the image is as it was taken. some tweaks done to increase brightness and contrast. some usm applied.

still trying to work this.

br-2a macro

this is my first shot with a br-2a inversion ring, nothing great to talk about, (both subject/technique wise)

i had got the inversion/reveral ring 2 days back and i was able to work with it today for the first time. was late in the evening, the only "subject" i could get was a dead fly. was experminting with him, shutter speed, compensation(both flash and exposure) this was the only usable image so far, but i am excited about this. this is akind of big crop of the actual image.

the equipment used, d70+br-2a with a sb-800 flash, the lens used for reversal was a nikkor 50mm 1.8.

excited with the possibilities, waiting for sunday to hit the garden to see what i can do!

Baya weaver nesting

This was taken at a resort somewhere outside Kalyan in maharastra

there was a small colony of these baya weavers ,very active, working on the nest.

i was observing them for about an hour, the males seemed to be quite aggressive.

the male baya weaver in breeding plumage! you can see the female inspecting the nest, while the male waits with bated breath.

this is a real close up of the little tree frog. taken on a d70 with a sigma 105mm macros, a first time with a a sigma .. amazing details.

Not good at identifying the species here. a brief description, this was tiny frog about an inch or so. was clinging to the leaves, was kind of jumpy, and some powerful jumping.
